My baby girl turned 3 today!!!!

:::SIGH::: Yes, sad but true. My little girl is officially preschool age! I feel so many different emotions today. Happiness and a sense of sadness that I no longer have "babies" or "toddlers" I now have "children".

3 short years ago I was in the hospital and on my 3rd night of induction. I felt as though she was never going to make her entrance to the world. I'd been admitted on a tuesday (July 22nd, 2008)  and here we were it was thursday evening and I had been told that I'd still not had enough progress to be in active labor. That was around 5 p.m. on 7/24/08. Around 7:15 that evening my doc was making rounds as she was on call that night. She came in and checked me and said that she didn't think I'd made enough progress. That she'd check again later....on second thought right now....next thing you know she induced my labor even further by breaking my water. That's when I knew sh!t was getting serious. LOL! By 9:45 I was BEGGING for my epidural. Around 11 p.m. is when they finally got the on call Anesthesiologist in to give it to me. This is when the fun really begins.

So basically when I was a kid I had a childhood epilepsy disorder. But I still have to mark it down on my medical records. So when the anesthesiologist came in and found this out it made him a tad bit nervous. Apparently if they got any local anesthetic in my epidural space it could cause an epileptic seizure right then, right there. He puts my epidural in and only my left leg goes numb.....so they have to do it all over again and in the process my i.v. infiltrates. Swelling my hand to 5x the size it normally is....

I got my epidural finished around midnight and dozed off to sleep for a few hours. Only to wake up around 2 a.m. to tell my husband to get the nurse, that little Mariyah was making her way into the world at last!

At 2:33 a.m. 7/25/08 Mariyah Rose Hensevelt was born, weighing in at 6lbs 15.5 oz and 19 inches long! We were instantly smitten with our "little peanut peanut" as we called her. She was born 20 years to the date that my grandpa Teubner had passed away and it was also the 4th anniversary of when Brent and I had first started dating.

Now she's a 3 year old...sleeping soundly right next to me...I just cannot believe it! Oh well we've had an exciting day so I must hit the hay! Hope this finds you all well!

Katy =D

Waiting for the Scots to arrive!!!

So I'm sitting here waiting with the kids at my Dad's...excited but kinda nervous. For the first time in my life I will be meeting my little cousin's Abby and Callum from Scotland. And this will be the first time that I've seen my Aunt Linda and Uncle Mark in I can't even tell you how long. Yes it's been that long.

My Dad's whole side of the family resides in Scotland and I will enjoy catching up with the family while here. I will miss my Auntie Caroline, Uncle John and my cousin Heather who is 19 and I've NEVER met....hoping to get a chance to meet her at some point in the near future!

In other news, I got to hear the hubby's voice the other night. I only got to talk to him for just over 15 minutes but it was the best 15 minutes of my life as of late! I've been having a wonderful time on vacay but it still doesn't feel complete without him here to enjoy it  with us. All I have to say is that some very exciting stuff has happened on the Seneca and that you should keep your eyes open in the news about it. Brent couldn't tell me much for OPSEC (Operational Security) Reasons but I can tell you that I am one proud wifey! He has accomplished so much this patrol, making MK1 (Machinary Technician Petty Officer 1st Class, yeah that's a mouthful so MK1 is much easier!) on July 1st, then he got Sailor of the Quarter, was given a MK1 coin by his MK1 above him, and being a pretty active part of the case that should hit the news in the next week. So needless to say, I am one proud wifey right now!

I'd also like to take a moment to ask that you send some thoughts and prayers to the country of Norway. They just had a bombing at a government building in downtown Oslo and a shooting at a children's day camp just outside of Oslo. All in one day. Such a sad turn of events :( My Mom's boyfriend lives about 20 minutes outside of Oslo and was on the phone with my Mom when the bombing occurred. So scary!

Well that's about all for now! Hope you all are having a wonderful day! Til next time, Adios Amigos y Amigas! =D

New Hair....

So today my Dad and Stepmom took the kids to lunch and shopping with them for their upcoming birthdays.

So what did I do you ask?

Went and got my hair done. For the first time in AGES!!!!

I've been feeling down and out about myself lately and this was just the type of pick me up that I needed. Normally I cringe and practically bite my nails the whole time I'm getting my hair done. (I've had some BAD BAD BAD experiences with getting my hair done) and was expecting to have my typical ::eh so so:: reaction that I normally had.  When it was time to look in the mirror I gasped! I was so happy with how my hair turned out! I've been beaming ever since....I haven't felt this good about myself in ages.....

It's amazing what a change in hairstyle and color can do to boost your ego! ;)

So all my fellow Mommy friends out there, I just want to say MAKE TIME for YOURSELF. I know how easy it is to get sucked into the "parent" role and forgetting to take care of yourself, trust me I know this all too well! But go for it anyways and set aside some time for yourself and go pamper yourself!  Even if it's a nice quiet lunch all by yourself at one of your favorite restaurants, make sure you do SOMETHING! =D

Driving Driving DRIVING!!!

So I'm sitting here getting ready to head to bed and I'm thinking of all the places that I've been in the last month since the hubby left.....I drove from Boston to Erie, Pa. Then from Erie I drove to East Tawas, Michigan. From East Tawas back to Erie. Stayed put for a couple of weeks and then off to Wisconsin I went with a stop right outside of Chicago for a day. I've done all of this traveling, by car, with a toddler and Kindergarten age child...oh yeah and you can't forget the dog, Ruger, either!

I guess it's no wonder that I cringe at the thought of having to get in the car to drive even 5 minutes down the street, however it's been a wonderful trip so far. The kids have been able to see a LOT of family and have had a blast being around their family. They've been SPOILED rotten by the grandparents, Aunts and Uncles.

So looking back on all the driving I've done, it's just a small price to pay to see my children smile as they get to spend time with their loved ones!

In a little over a week and a half I will be making the long trip back to Erie and then from there back to Boston....Lord Help me! LOL

Mariyah giving Victor his first kiss! ;)

Look who jumped on the blogging bandwagon!!!!

So...I've finally done it, I've jumped on the blogging bandwagon.....so here's the intro.

Chances are, you already know us....and if not here's the 411 on the Hensevelt family!

My name is Katy, I was born and raised in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. Back in 2004 I joined the Coast Guard for a change of scenery and to get out of the rut that I was stuck in. So in June 2004 I showed up at Station Ft. Myers Beach, Florida.  While stationed there I met my husband, Brent. I thought he was funny, sweet and WAY to nice for me. At least with my trackrecord....I'd dated a lot of bad boys and losers....

He asked me out....I said no....to which he said he would not stop asking until I said yes....a month and a half later....I caved! We had to keep our relationship underwraps and didn't see each other for the 4 months that we were together. I ended up opting to get out of the CG earlier than I'd anticipated...that's a story for another day. After I was discharged we got engaged and here we are 7 years later...July 25th will mark 7 years since we started dating and our daughter's 3rd birthday!

We have 2 wedding anniversaries...because we're cool like that....in all honestly it's because 1 1/2 months before our actual wedding we found out that we were expecting our first child. Talk about a shock, it was the last thing I was expecting to happen so early on in our relationship. We found out about Ayden December 20th and were married December 21st, 2005.  We then had our wedding February 4th, 2006.

We welcomed our first born, Ayden Thomas Hensevelt on August 10th, 2006 at 8:34 pm. It was a long wait for him...I was 2 days shy of being 42 weeks when I delivered him....15 minutes before I was due to be wheeled out and prepped for the OR. I had been in labor for 2 days and had finally resigned myself to being a C-Section and then BAM! All of the sudden he wanted to make a quick entrance to the world.

He is our incredibly handsome and brilliant young man. He is stubborn as can be but can be so sweet that it just melts your heart.  He is getting ready to start Kindergarten in the fall. I still cannot believe that my lil guy is going to be 5 in a few short weeks!

We welcomed our second and last child, Mariyah Rose Hensevelt on July 25th, 2008 at 2:33 a.m.. She was born 20 years to the date that my Grandpa Teubner had passed. She was also born on our 4 year anniversary of when we first started dating. Much like Ayden, I was in labor with her for over 2 days and had her the day before my due date. It was a scheduled induction as I'd been sick with Gallbladder disease and had moved to Pennsylvania so my mom and sister could help me with Ayden when I was sick.

Mariyah is our little diva....who knew with a name like Mariyah?! ;) She loves to sing, dance and is very competitive with her big brother. She is a force to be reckoned with. She's not afraid to get down and play in the dirt while wearing her flashiest bright pink skirt......I keep telling my husband how SCREWED we are when she becomes a teenager....lol....

As for Brent, well he's Machinery Technician 1st Class Petty Officer in the Coast Guard. He's currently stationed on the CGC Seneca out of Boston. He's accomplished so much in the 7 years that I've known him and he's been in for a total of 8 years! We are due to transfer next summer and won't know where we're going until around March next year, if we're lucky!

Oh and we cannot forget about our newest addition to the family....our pointer/lab mix, Ruger! We adopted him back in March and have been smitten with him ever since!

And as for the title to our blog....recently I've realized that our life is much like a Gypsy's...we pick up and move frequently and I kind of feel like one with how often our life changes.....well that's about all for now...I'm off to the Y to get some much needed excercise....hope you are having a wonderful day!
